Ben Solomonow, violoncello7:30 p.m. ~ Orpheum Theatre
"An exceptional, mature young musician."
Fourteen-year-old Ben Solomonow began playing violin at age 5 at the Music Institute of Chicago. He currently performs with the Midwest Young Artists (MYA) Senior Symphony Orchestra and Piano Trio. Twice a prize winner of the Society of American Musicians Competition, Solomonow won the 2010 Walgreens MYA Concerto Competition Senior Division and the Junior Division in 2007. In 2009, Solomonow won the DePaul University Concerto Festival for young performers and was a scholarship student at the Meadowmount School of Music. He has performed with the principal flute of the Chicago Symphony, at Ravinia’s Bennet-Gordon Hall and as soloist with the Oistrach Symphony and Kankakee Valley Symphony Orchestra. Solomonow has been featured on WFMT-FM’s “Introductions” and on National Public Radio’s “From the Top.”
