Joseph Breznikar, professor in the School of Music at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale, is one of America’s most respected classical guitarists having distinguished himself worldwide as a performer, teacher, recording artist, composer and arranger for the guitar. He has appeared in such prestigious venues as the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, The White House, Yale University, and New York’s 92nd Street Y, and has performed in the Far East, Eastern Europe, and South America.

His commitment to endowing the guitar’s literature with significant new works includes Ned’s Rorem’s Suite for Guitar, a work commissioned for him by the Cleveland Orchestra, several world premiere performances, and his own Twelve American Etudes for Guitar, which has received high critical acclaim for its technical comprehension and musicality.
