Marta Vieira, violin7:30 Orpheum Theatre
“Youthful brilliance at its finest.”
Marta Sofia Botelho Vieira began her musical studies on the piano and flute at age six. Currently in her 8th and last year at the Conservatorio Regional de Ponta Delgada, she was awarded the highest possible grade for the last three consecutive years in the global exam. Vieira won first prize in the Midwest Young Artists (MYA) Concerto Competition in 2007; first prize in the Meadowmount Chamber Music Competition (New York) in 2005 and her composition, “Meditation” for violin solo, placed first at the Conservatorio Regional de Ponta Delgada Composers Competition; Currently serving as concertmaster of the MYA Symphonic Orchestra. She has also served as concertmaster of the Portugese National Youth Orchestra in 2007, and the Latino Symphonic Orchestra (Chicago) in 2006.
