Ariel Chapman, viola

Fifteen year old Ariel Chapman began playing violin at age five before switching to viola at age ten. For the past five years she has performed with the Midwest Young Artists (MYA) as principal violist of the Prep Orchestra, the Concert Orchestra and currently for the Senior Symphony. With these orchestras, she has performed in China, Korea and in Chicago venues including the Harris Theatre for Music and Dance, the Civic Opera and at Northwestern’s Pick-Staiger Concert Hall and the Genessee Theater in Waukegan.  Chapman won the 2007 principal viola position in the Illinois Music Educator’s Association regional orchestra, the 2007 Walgreen’s Midwest Young Artists Competition Junior Division Early Music category, and in 2009 she won the principal viola position in the Wisconsin High School Honors Orchestra.
