The Knox-Galesburg Symphony (KGS) maintains an extraordinarily rich tradition that reflects prestigious recognition both of the orchestra and of a community many times its size. Among its many national, state and local accolades, the outstanding legacy of the Knox-Galesburg Symphony has been consistently recognized by the Illinois Council of Orchestras (ICO) with the KGS having received 17 ICO Awards in 9 different categories including Dr. Bruce Polay as a three-time recipient of the Illinois Conductor of the Year Award, most recently the prestigious 2010 Illinois Conductor of the Year, Professional Orchestra Award. He has also been recognized with the ICO’s coveted 2008 Cultural Leadership of the Year and 2006 Programming of the Year Awards. And, the KGS is a three-time recipient of the Illinois Orchestra of the Year Award, most recently in 2008.
